Bruise Be Gone

Good Morning!

My children have been extra needy these last few weeks, demanding to be held. Which I totally do not mind because they are pretty cute! Add in some yard work and the fact that I have been using my arms a little extra at work the last few weeks and I am left with a sore shoulder.

Luckily I have all the tools in my arsenal to help! I did some cupping. Michael Phelps was the one who made the technique famous but it has been used in eastern medicine for ages! This article  has some compelling evidence that cupping may be beneficial for pain control and improved quality of life. The down side is it leaves some nasty bruising.

Luckily for me I have OILS!

2013 review found helichrysum to have anti-hematomal properties. If quickly applied, the essential oil can reduce bruise size and appearance as well as decrease inflammation.

Apply diluted oil to unbroken skin immediately after injury or massage. Reapply as necessary for pain relief.

I took this one further and Checked my Modern Essentials book for other great oils to help!

I came up with this blend.

I mixed it with Vitamin E oil because that is what I have on hand. FCO, jojoba or grape seed oil would work well too.

Hope you have good luck with those bruises.

LEMONGRASS ESSENTIAL OIL!!!! This oil is one of the forgotten wonders of the Essential Oil world! I have put in bold my favorite uses of lemongrass. We mix it in with our dogs shampoos and It is an ingredient in my shampoo, body wash and home made deodorant. I will include Recipes below. We have 6 diffusers in the house, Lemongrass, lavender and wild orange in our bedroom in the evening before bed is another on of my favorite diffuser blends. (There is that wild orange again!)

Calming Blend- Add two drops each with FCO to a 10 ML roller and add to the bottom of feet before bed.

Research has been started and there is promising evidence that shows Lemongrass Essential oil as an effective anti fungal and Anti Inflammatory for skin conditions. Why not give it a try before using harmful toxic chemicals?!

A list of the Top Eleven Uses for Lemongrass Essential Oil:

Sweet cheeks

#mom life

There are a few things in life I dislike more than changing poopy diapers. One of those things is my sweet boys being in discomfort so I continue to change those foul smelling creations in return for happy healthy boys.

My sweet baby has had a rough battle with diaper rash and no matter What store bought creams or prescriptions we used it always came back with a vengeance.

Enter essential oils: We mixed up 10 drops each of lavender tea tree and frankincense mixed with FCO into a  3 oz spray bottle. Spray it on during diaper change and notice the difference within hours.

Frankincense is safe for use on babies and works wonders for all skin-related ailments including diaper rashes. It has wonderful anti-inflammatory properties that help relieve pain and swelling in the affected region. It also contains potent antioxidants, which help promote faster healing.

Also known as melaleuca, tea tree is one of the most commonly used oils in the world and is well-known for being a powerful disinfectant. It is a potent antiseptic and contains antimicrobial, antivirus, anti-fungal and antibacterial properties. Tea tree oil is particularly good for diaper rashes caused by yeast infection, compared to other essential oils. This is a must-have essential oil for all.

A calming and relaxing oil, lavender does wonders to soothe the red, itchy skin around the rash. It helps disinfect the skin, relieves pain and enhances blood circulation, promoting faster healing and quick relief.

It took about 7 diaper changes of consistent care to get rid of his rash and we have not had a recurrence unless I am not spraying!

If you don’t have all the ingredients I am happy to make it for you for 15.00. If you want to be able to make as much as you need here is the link to purchase the ingredients.

Hope you all have a Wonderful Weekend!

The featured oil for this week will be the ever popular lavender.

My dad once had a bottle of lavender in his luggage that broke while traveling. He went to a laundromat to wash out the oil but his clothes all radiated the scent of lavender for weeks. Ever since then there has been a negative association with the scent.

However, because I love Research and science lavender oil is back in action.

In case you don’t have time to read the whole article I will sum it up for you : a systematic review (yes, I wish it was a double-blind too) was completed studying the effects of essential oil aromatherapy on sleep. It was concluded that essential oils improve sleep for people with mild sleep disturbances and lavender oil was the number one oil used.

We usually diffuse our oils at night, especially in the kids rooms, because what mom doesn’t want their kid to sleep? #reallife #mombie but we also use an awesome mattress and pillow spray shared by #aromahead Give it a shot, comment below if you try it, what did you think?

Note: Don’t have manderin? Try wild orange or tangerine instead. Don’t have ylang ylang(why not) you can leave it out.
